PAEDIATRICS

Care for children from newborn to teenager — check-ups, vaccinations, growth and development, and treatment when they're unwell.

Overview

Children aren't small adults

Children have their own needs — physically, developmentally and emotionally — and their care has to be built around that. At Putra Medical Centre, our paediatric service covers preventive care, early detection, treating illness, and tracking how your child grows and develops, from newborns through to teenagers.

The focus is on catching things early, keeping you informed as parents, and steady monitoring — with a child-friendly, family-centred approach throughout. The team works closely with obstetrics, neonatology, our A&E and specialist departments when a child needs more.

Our divisions

What we can do about it

Our paediatric care runs across three divisions — everyday childhood care, longer-term conditions, and surgery, which is on the way.

General Paediatrics

Routine care, common illnesses, vaccinations and development.

A full head-to-toe examination in the first days, so nothing gets missed.

What this includes

  • Vital signs and reflexes
  • Check for congenital abnormalities
  • General health assessment
Why it's worth it

Catches medical issues early, when they're easiest to treat.

Paediatric Internal Medicine

Longer-term and more complex conditions in children.

Long-term conditions in children, followed closely as they grow.

What this includes

  • Childhood asthma
  • Juvenile diabetes
  • Congenital heart conditions (with cardiology)
  • Chronic kidney and gastrointestinal conditions
  • Autoimmune disorders
Why it's worth it

Regular follow-up prevents complications and improves long-term health.

Paediatric Surgery Coming soon

A planned expansion at PMCK. Children's anatomy, physiology and recovery need specialised techniques and equipment.

Surgical care for children, delivered here in Kedah rather than a distant centre.

What this includes

  • Congenital abnormalities
  • Hernias
  • Appendicitis
  • Undescended testes
  • Paediatric trauma
  • Selected neonatal surgical conditions
Why it matters

Less need to travel, faster intervention in emergencies, and child-focused anaesthesia and recovery.
