SPORTS MEDICINE
Treating injuries and joint pain from sport, work or everyday life — with a non-surgical approach first, and rehabilitation to get you back to what you were doing.
You don't have to be an athlete
The name is a bit misleading. Sports Medicine is for anyone dealing with an injury or a limitation in how they move — professional and weekend athletes, yes, but just as much people with a sore knee from work, a shoulder that’s stiffened up with age, or an ankle that keeps giving way.
At Putra Medical Centre, Sports Medicine works both on its own and hand in hand with Orthopaedics. The emphasis is on assessing an injury early, treating it without surgery wherever that’s possible, and planning the rehabilitation that actually gets you back to normal. If surgery is needed, we work directly with the orthopaedic surgeons before and after.
What we help with
You don't have to play sport to belong here. Start with whatever's stopping you moving properly.
A sprain or muscle tear
A sudden injury from sport or activity.
A knee or shoulder that keeps giving way
Recurring instability.
Tendon pain
Tennis elbow, Achilles, and other tendon problems.
Pain that comes on with activity
Overuse injuries that build slowly.
Stiff, aching joints
Chronic joint pain, including with age.
Getting back after surgery
Rehabilitation after ligament or joint surgery.
Avoiding the next injury
Training and conditioning advice.
What we can do about it
Our sports medicine care falls into six areas. Pick the one that matches your situation.
Working out what's actually injured — and why it happened in the first place.
What this includes
- Evaluation of sudden injuries
- Strength and range-of-motion testing
- Biomechanical assessment
Finds the root cause rather than just the sore spot, and early diagnosis reduces the risk of long-term damage.
Most injuries heal without an operation, given the right support at the right time.
What this includes
- Bracing and supports
- Medication
- Activity modification
- Rehabilitation programmes
Avoids unnecessary surgery and promotes natural healing.
Aches, stiffness and joints that feel unreliable — including the ones that come with age.
What this includes
- Chronic joint pain assessment
- Stiffness and reduced mobility
- Joint instability
Improves functional independence and day-to-day comfort.
Ultrasound guidance means the medication lands exactly where it's needed.
What this includes
- Ultrasound-guided joint injections
- Tendon injections
- Anti-inflammatory and regenerative treatments
Precise placement means faster relief and less inflammation.
A supervised, gradual build-up — the part people skip, and then re-injure themselves.
What this includes
- Structured rehabilitation programmes
- Return-to-play protocols
- Progressive loading
A gradual, supervised return is what stops the injury coming straight back.
Getting the most out of an operation you've already had.
What this includes
- Rehabilitation after ligament reconstruction
- Rehabilitation after joint surgery
- Coordination with orthopaedics
Optimises surgical outcomes and accelerates recovery.
Sports Medicine isn't only for sportspeople.
If your knee hurts on the stairs, your shoulder has stiffened up, or an old ankle injury keeps flaring — that's exactly what this clinic is for. We take a conservative-first approach: surgery only when it's genuinely the right answer, and rehabilitation planned from day one either way.
Your first visit, step by step
Here's how a first sports medicine appointment usually goes.

Your plan
Non-surgical treatment where possible, with clear timelines.
